Das muss man erstmal sacken lassen.
Natürlich ist es keine Überraschung, dass "Letum" gut geworden ist. Das Debüt war gut, die anderweitigen
Betätigungsfelder der Dame sind mehr als respektabel, hochkarätige Hilfe gab es auch, und überhaupt ist es in
Italien in letzter Zeit steil bergauf gegangen, man denke nur an Locus Mortis. Doch wie gut das zweite Album von
Melencolia Estatica werden würde, konnten wohl nicht mal ausgemachte Optimisten erahnen.
Schon die Produktion ist unglaublich. Wuchtiges Schlagzeug, ein geiler Bass und voluminös-knackig säg-singende
Gitarren, das Ganze detailfreudig, aber nie übertrieben poliert - besser kann Black Metal nicht klingen. Hat man
den vor Staunen offenen Mund wieder zubekommen und konzentriert sich auf die Musik, stellt man schnell fest, dass
diese soviel Mühe tatsächlich wert ist. Wie schon das Debüt bietet auch "Letum" dem Tieftöner viel Raum zum
Entfalten; immer wieder liefert der Bass zum Sturm der Gitarren die eigentliche Melodie. Doch anders als in der
Vergangenheit beschränken sich die sechs Saiten nicht mehr auf den Rauscheteppich fürs Langholz. Nein, gerade die
aktivere Rolle der Gitarre macht Melencolia Estatica anno 2008 so unglaublich mitreißend. Der Frau sind ein paar
Melodien eingefallen, die mich vor Begeisterung auf die Knie zwingen. Und diese schrillen Leads treiben mich
regelmäßig in den Wahnsinn.
Was soll ich noch sagen? Melencolia Estatica ist der große Wurf gelungen. Ein Album, das zumindest ich auch in zehn
Jahren nicht vergessen haben werde. "Letum" ist das, was man als Hörer sucht; der Beweis, dass Musik auch nach all
den Jahren und inmitten all der überflüssigen Veröffentlichungen Magie entfalten kann. Black Metal lebt. |

Of course it wasn't a surprise that "Letum" turned out well. The debut was good, all the other projects of the
signora behind this project are more than just decent, top-class help was also being given here and most of all,
things are on a significant high in Italy for some time now, just think about Locus Mortis for example. But even
the most optimistic ones among us couldn't have fathomed that the second album of Melencolia Estatica would turn
out THAT good.
The production alone is incredible. Thundering drums, wicked bass lines and voluminously crisp, crushing and
singing guitars, the whole thing full of details but never excessively polished - Black Metal couldn't possibly
sound better than that. And when you already managed to shut your mouth again and concentrate on the music, you
quickly realize that it is completely worth the trouble. Just like the debut record, "Letum" offers its bass lines
a lot of sonic space to grow on; every once in a while, the bass delivers the actual melody to the whirlwind of
guitars. The six-stringed axes do not limit themselves anymore to being the noise wall for that particular
instrument like it was the case on the first album. No, it's just the more active role of the guitar that makes
Melencolia Estatica in the year of 2008 so unbelievably stirring. The signora comes along with melodies which force
me down onto my knees in sheer excitement. And this piercing leads constantly drive me insane.
What else can I say? Melencolia Estatica unleashed a monster that I even won't have forgotten in ten years. "Letum"
is what a listener is searching for; the proof that music - even after all these years and among all these other
needless releases - is able to unfold some sort of magic. Black Metal is alive.
